Principal's Message
Alma State Preschool is designed to provide a warm, nurturing environment that celebrates the diversity of each family, in which a child can spend his /her first, extremely important, year in school. This program will allow each child to grow and realize his/her fullest potential, according to the individual’s own development and problem solving skills, while exploring language arts, math, science and social studies. Alma State Preschool partners with each family, in order to better serve the students and families. This partnership is founded in open, two-way communication, in order to share expertise and decision making. The program also assists families in creating support networks, as well as locating and using appropriate community resources, as needed.
The program serves 3 - 4 year old students. This is a state publicly funded program specifically serving families who meet income eligibility criteria. The program serves a total of 48 students through our AM and PM sessions for 180 days a year.
MISSION STATEMENT
Alma State Preschool is a place that provides families within our community an enriched and safe environment, where young children can learn at their own pace about themselves and the world around them. Highly qualified staff facilitate learning experiences that enable students to learn and discover through the development of positive self-help skills, interaction and cooperation with others and hands-on learning activities. Our inclusive environment is a place that celebrates diversity and a place where we strive to foster individuality, creativity and empathetic lifelong learners.
VISION STATEMENT
At Alma State Preschool, our focus is to provide a stimulating learning environment that nurtures the "whole child" by fostering the five selves (emotional, social, physical, cognitive and creative development). We will accomplish this by applying a play-based emergent learning curriculum that is child-oriented and teacher-guided. Learning takes place using several teaching methods and utilizing our "learning centers" such as art center, dramatic play center, block center, science center, library center, sensory center and circle time. Our centers provide opportunities for children to develop socially, to engage in physical activities, and to tap into their creative side (and just to be with friends!) We aim to expose the children to rich and diverse cultures through engaging and meaningful activities. Our main goal is to inspire children to become life-long learners, problem solvers and creative thinkers.
We encourage families to be involved in their child's developmental years. We believe parents are their child's most important teachers. At Alma State Preschool, we embrace the rich and diverse cultures of our families. With an open door policy, parents and families are welcome to join in learning activities, event celebrations and special occasions with us!
We are committed to developing a positive partnership with each family to better serve your child. This partnership founded on respect, honesty and open two-way communication. Our program knows the importance of unity in the community. For that reason, we assist families in creating support networks as well as locating and using appropriate community resources as needed.
Our highly skilled and caring staff will strive to uphold a positive, friendly and welcoming earning environment at all times, thus facilitating an unforgettable learning experience for the child and families.
